The version 2 DualPack was the most complete dive logbook suite DreamDives published: the desktop logbook, the handheld logbook and the synchronisation layer, all on the same generation of the database format.
What was in the package
- SharkPoint for Windows v2 — the full desktop logbook, statistics and print design
- SharkPoint for PocketPC v2 — the same logbook on a Windows Mobile handheld
- DiveSync v2 Next Gen — full synchronisation of the complete dataset between the two
Why version 2 was the pairing that worked
The Palm DualPack was constrained: because the database format changed at version 2 and DiveSync 1.5 could not read it, the Palm edition stayed paired with Windows v1.5. The PocketPC DualPack had no such constraint. Both halves were version 2, DiveSync Next Gen synchronised all dive log data rather than a subset, and the two companions shared a deliberately similar interface — the same main screen, the same logbook sections, the same navigation.
For a diver, that meant one logbook that happened to exist in two places, which is what the range had been working toward since 2002.
The shared feature set
Both halves carried the version 2 additions:
- Password protected files — the logbook holds certification, medical and insurance detail
- Enhanced profile charting
- Photo album support
- 100% synchronisation of all dive log data
- The VDAF engine — Virtual Dive Agency File, DreamDives' open standard for describing repetitive dive planning parameters in a file rather than hard-coding them
The all-in-one record structure was identical on both: dives, buddies, dive places, log categories, photo album, personal information, equipment management, dive planner and enhanced statistics — with dive computer import available on the Windows side through the DCU modules.
Editions
As with the individual products, three different editions of the version 2 suite were published, each focused on a different kind of diver — from those using the simpler logging features through to divers organising large volumes of records with the advanced options.
On the planning tools
The dive planner and the VDAF format handled recreational dive table parameters. They were aids for checking and sketching a plan, not decompression authorities, and they never displaced a diver's training, tables or dive computer. The Divers Alert Network publishes the standing guidance in this area.
Availability
The suite is no longer distributed, and the PocketPC / Windows Mobile platform has been discontinued by its vendor. This page records what it contained. See the product range for the rest of the family.
